RASCAFRÍA TO ÁVILA
We continue our climb of the hills of Guadarrama. This is a challenge with 700 m ascent, but later it will present you with an amazing descent. Cycling through beautiful golden fields away from the stress of the big city, through the mountain roads of the Central Iberian System, the goal is to reach the old city of Ávila, Unesco World Heritage, and one of the most interesting cultural cities along the route.

ÁVILA TO BARCO D’ÁVILA
Leaving from Ávila along the old city wall, it’s time to hit the road for another day cycling on high mountain roads. The beauty of the landscapes along the Tormes River, its Roman bridges, and the typical villages of the Zapatero Massif help forget this is a long day with well over 100 km. After this long stage, the route reaches the historical town of Barco d’Ávila.

BARCO D’ÁVILA TO ALBERCA
The fourth stage of this adventure crosses the Béjar Mountain pass at 1.600 metres. This is a day with difficult climbs and deserted roads, the oak forests and the picturesque village of Candelário. After passing the valley before the Hurdes region, a long climb of over an hour reaches Alberca and enters the Sierra de Francia Natural Park.

ALBERCA TO RAPOULA DO COA
This is one of the longest stages, but it will take us halfway through the challenge. The final climb of the previous day continues. You will need to climb over 800 meters to reach the epic Vuelta-climb Peña de Francia (1750m). After this climb: just deserted roads in one of the most remote regions of the Peninsula. The stage ends with crossing into Portugal, quickly reaching the city of Sabugal.

RAPOULA DO COA TO PIÓDÃO
: Beautiful day with some of Portugal’s most beautiful historical villages. But the highlight of the day is Portugal’s highest point: the Torre in the Serra da Estrela at 2000 meters. After that, the longest descent of the entire crossing. It doesn’t end there. Another hard climb follows towards Piodão, the most beautiful schist village of Portugal, in an unbelievable valley with small houses stuck on the hillside.

PIÓDÃO TO PENELA
This stage goes through the central schist mountains system of Portugal. The route follows through rounded ridges of up to 1000 metres high. It is a day of great scenery and long windmill park crossings. Then, the scenery changes radically as you enter a hilly region of karst landscape that will dominate the next stages, with its olive groves and holm oak. You are in the limestone kingdom.

PENELA TO ÓBIDOS
Starting in the small town of Penela with its beautiful castle, we quickly leave the limestone hills. After descending from the last ridge of these mountainous terrains we get a first glimpse of the Atlantic Ocean. And then it appears. It is time to head south, with our coastline guiding you. Here you’ll be visiting the typical coastal villages of São Pedro de Moel, Nazaré (famous for its giant waves), and Foz do Arelho. The goal will be the picturesque medieval village of Óbidos.

The final stage starts from the lake of Óbidos and heads back to the coast. For those who were able to ride for 9 days through the mountains of Iberian Peninsula this is a great day. The quiet roads by the sea, cliffs and beaches, local typical fishing villages make this a unique and different day on this long journey. And then we reach our final destination: the Rock Cape, the westernmost point of Europe.
